About The Sled
The inventor of The Sled is Ray Lentine. He has won more bass fishing tournaments in the Northeast than anyone else – with over 60 wins. He was the 2007 Massachusetts B.A.S.S. State Champion, a NEBCO Champion, a NBAA Champion, the 2012 MassB.A.S.S. State Team Captain and is the winner of the 2011 Massachusetts B.A.S.S. Tournament of Champions. Ray has been tournament bass fishing for many years and his “go to” bait has always been the jig.
Nobody fishes the jig by itself. It always has a trailer. Most of the time Ray’s trailer of choice is an Uncle Josh #11 Pork Frog, (see picture) but there are several other trailer choices (see chart) that other anglers use. Also, different fishing situations and conditions dictate different trailers. This site will teach you when and where to use each on The Sled. When the pork frog is added to the jig, it becomes a “jig & pig.” To perfect the first paragraph, Ray’s “go to” bait is the jig & pig.
The jig & pig is known throughout the bass fishing world as a big fish catcher. Ray contributes most of his wins to his almost non-stop use of the jig & pig. When others in a tournament come to the scale with 5 small fish, Ray comes to the scale, after fishing the same water, with 5 much larger fish. The 2011 MassB.A.S.S. Tournament of Champions is a perfect example. Fishing against the best of the best in the state of Massachusetts, Ray caught over 20 pounds for 5 fish – all caught using a jig & pig. (Actually, The Sled) The closest competitor to him weighed in just over 10 pounds. It was such a lopsided victory that if the 2nd place and 3rd place finishers combined their weights it would not have weighed as much as Ray’s winning weight.
