TRAILERS
The Sled is a jig, but made perfect. All jigs are useless without a “trailer.” A trailer is what makes the jig come to life. Choosing the right trailer is not something you should take lightly. There are two different kinds of trailers: plastic and real pork. Today most choose plastic trailers, but pork has a very important purpose.
Remember that all jigs, including The Sled, imitate crawfish. If the trailers legs don’t move – you are using the wrong trailer. Also, nothing sleds in the water, over limbs and through weeds as doesThe Sled. A great trailer on a Sled and you have a fish catching Perfect Lure.
Pork Trailers:
There are several companies that make pork trailers, but only one that every other company follows. Uncle Josh makes a great pork trailer. The most popular Uncle Josh and the one we recommend is the #11 Pork Frog in black or black/brown. They are not cheap – costing $1.50 to $2.00 each. They come in bottles of 4 or large bottles that have about 22. Hint: Most people can’t find the hole in the flat smooth side, but keep on probing with the hook point. Pork is tough and you will not get the hook through it if you don’t find the hole.
Pork trailers can be used all of the time, but the perfect time is when you are skipping docks or over-hangs.
The violent action of whipping The Sled (1/4 ounce) makes plastic trailers rip off or fold up onto the lure.
The #11 pork will not turn and twist. It is perfect for this fish catching technique: Skipping.
Plastic Trailers:
Almost all plastic lure manufacturers make jig trailers. The perfect plastic trailer is made by NetBait. It is the Paca® Chunk. Do not confuse or buy the NetBait Paca® Craw, it is too large, bulky and hollow. If you buy something other than the Paca® Chunk, then test it before use to insure the legs move.
